Getting Started
Start by visiting our homepage where you'll find an interactive map showing the properties, camps, and units our community has shared so far. You can click on markers to view details, see the feed of contributions, or use the filter buttons. As we grow, more accommodations will be added by our community members.
The interactive map shows properties and camps as markers. Click on any marker to view information shared by our community. Zoom in to see units within camps. Use the toggle controls to show/hide different types of accommodations. As our community grows, more markers will appear on the map.
You can add properties, camps, and units by visiting our How to Contribute page for detailed instructions. We recommend starting with the property (parent location), then adding camps within it, and finally adding units. You'll need to provide details like name, description, location coordinates, and upload photos. Every contribution helps us build this platform from the ground up.
Accommodations
A property is the parent location (like a game reserve or lodge facility) that contains multiple camps. A camp is a safari lodge or accommodation facility within a property, containing multiple accommodation units and shared facilities. A unit is an individual accommodation option within a camp - this could be a tent, suite, villa, or room. Each unit has its own unique features, layout, and amenities.
For each property, camp, and unit shared by our community, you can view information including: name, location, description, photos, contact details, and reviews. Since we're building this platform together, the amount of information available depends on what contributors have shared. More details are added as our community grows.
Guest reviews are displayed with star ratings (1-5 stars) and written comments. Reviews show the guest's username, date of visit, and their experience. Look for patterns in reviews - if multiple guests mention the same positive or negative aspects, it's likely accurate. Reviews help you understand the real experience beyond the promotional photos and descriptions.
Safari accommodations come in various types including: luxury tents, family lodges, deluxe suites, standard rooms, water villas, and more. Each unit type offers different levels of comfort, space, and amenities. The unit type is clearly displayed on each unit's page, along with detailed descriptions of what's included and what makes it unique.

Currently, Safarikaya is focused on providing detailed information and visual exploration of accommodations. We showcase accommodation information, but all arrangements are made directly with the camps.
We strive to provide accurate and up-to-date information. Camp and unit details are provided by camp owners and community contributors. Guest reviews offer real experiences from actual visitors. However, we recommend contacting camps directly to confirm current availability, rates, and any recent changes before making travel plans.
You can contribute by adding properties, camps, and units, uploading photos, writing reviews, and sharing your safari experiences. Visit our How to Contribute page for detailed instructions. We're just getting started, so every contribution matters! If you're a camp owner, add your property and keep information updated. If you're a traveler, add accommodations you've discovered and share reviews to help build our community resource.
Safarikaya aims to cover safari destinations across Africa, including popular countries like Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Uganda. We're just getting started, and our coverage grows as community members contribute properties, camps, and units from across the continent.
Content & Images
Images are crucial because they help travelers make informed decisions about their safari accommodation. High-quality photos show the actual condition, layout, and atmosphere of properties, camps, and units, building trust and setting realistic expectations. As we build this platform together, photos help other travelers understand what to expect from each accommodation.
For properties, upload overview shots and key features. For camps, upload exterior shots, common areas, dining spaces, and views. For units, include bedroom photos, bathroom shots, views from the unit, and any unique features. Use high-resolution images that accurately represent the accommodation. Avoid heavily edited photos that might mislead travelers.
When adding a camp or unit, you'll see an image upload section. Click "Choose Files" to select multiple images from your device. We recommend uploading at least 3-5 high-quality photos. The first image will be used as the main display image. You can select a different image to be the featured image when editing your contribution.
Yes! If you're the contributor who added the camp or unit, you can edit it and update the images. Go to the camp or unit page and look for the edit option. You can add new images, remove old ones, or reorder them. This helps keep the content fresh and accurate.
We support JPEG, JPG or PNG formats. For best quality, upload images that are at least 1200x800 pixels. Maximum file size is 10MB per image. We automatically optimize images for web display while maintaining quality for travelers to see details clearly.
